God the attorney
God and the Holy Spirit’s role in our lives is the same as a physical lawyer here on earth.
The first, what they do is listen to your complaints or problems.
The second is to give you wisdom, whereas a lawyer gives you legal advice.
The third is they will discuss your options and courses to take, and take instructions regarding the plan of action that could lead to the success of your case.
Lastly, an attorney will help you understand the corresponding laws that are applicable to your case. In any event of summoning, your lawyer or attorney may even represent you and stand with you.
If a lawyer is working for you. They must abide by the following code of conduct:
- Follow directives
- Maintain discretion or confidentiality
- Must steer clear from conflict of interests
- Efficiently communicate with all parties
- Must be honest and only seeks the best for your sake
- Acts with diligence and mastery of craft
Somehow the role of an attorney or lawyer mirrors the role of God and the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Follow directives
As your lawyer works for you he or she should dedicatedly listen to you, give you the best legal advice, take directives about your plans and what you want to do about your legal concerns, and in the latter carry out those directives.
First and foremost, it’s crucial that you are completely honest with your lawyer because their legal advice will solely depend on the facts and information you lay out to them.
Just like the Holy Spirit, He wants us to be completely open to Him in order for Him to help us with all His might.
After your fact and information exchange with your lawyer, he or she will give you the legal advice you seek. Oftentimes you have to wait for the legal advice since not all are easy to decipher, and you have to wait and he or she may need to dig up some old cases or research in order to give the legal advice you seek.
This is also the case for God when asking for answers, He doesn’t give you the answer right away, He needs time to assess things, and give you the best afterward.
Going back, your legal counsel or lawyer has a sworn duty to give you all the necessary options. You should consider advice that your legal counsel gave you, however, the autonomy and decision would rely on you.
If you missed out or didn’t understand the advice, clarify and ask further questions.
While your lawyer is obliged to follow your directives, they still cannot do anything illegal in following your instructions. In the end, your attorney also has an ethical and moral obligation not to mislead the court with misinformation or waste the court’s precious time.
Maintain discretion or confidentiality
All of your idea exchanges and conversation will be treated with discretion and confidentiality, which means that your lawyer is bound by law that he cannot disclose any information you told him or her.
Must steer clear from conflict of interests
Your lawyer cannot confide or work with you if:
- They worked for the party that is involved in your case and some confidential information about them might negatively affect your lawyer’s interest.
- They are working for you and the opposition.
- Your personal interest clashes with your lawyer’s interest.
If any of these parameters ticks the box, this is a ‘conflict of interest’.
Transparency is key in terms of conflict interest, your lawyer should discuss this and so should you.
Efficiently communicate with all parties
Communication is key to pursuing a successful case. Your lawyer is obliged to regularly update you on the status and progress of your case.
Just like a prayer, you should communicate regularly with God in order to keep on track with Him.
Must be honest and only seeks the best for your sake
Your lawyer is obliged to be honest with you and must act in your best interest, nothing else but they cannot act unethically or illegally. Your lawyer should be transparent about the strengths and weaknesses of your case, and the possible routes to success. On the basis of dishonesty, you can always make a complaint.
Acts with diligence and mastery of craft
Your lawyer should have mastery in your case to properly execute and win the case. If in doubt, you can always ask your lawyer how long they have been in the area of your case, or how many similar cases they have been involved with.
These factors are extremely crucial in winning lawsuits and giving justice to you, whether it’s offshore accident lawsuits and normal lawsuits. All these factors are crucial.
Just like God and the Holy Spirit in our lives, He stands as our lawyer and attorney that takes care and keeps us safe.
